Life is like an elevator. Up and down, just make sure you get off on the right floor!
“Why is the phrase “life has its ups and downs” so difficult to apply when we find ourselves in a down moment? If you find it a struggle to reverse a down day, remember ‘ups’ exist as well.” I read this sometime back which created a huge impact on me. I realized that a negative reaction to a down mood is normal. We’re all human, it’s what we do. But, gaining control of our thoughts before we spiral further downward is key to recovery. When and how we take control determines how much energy is required to pull ourselves back up.
We often experience ups and downs. It’s who we are and how our emotions play out. When it comes to downs, we over-think, over-analyze, and second guess ourselves. This reduces our ability to pull ourselves up. One thing which one should never do is, never compare yourself and your capabilities to others. They all have their ups and downs, we just don’t see them.
There’s no instruction manual for climbing out of a down mood. It doesn’t matter if it’s your business, your personal goals, or your hopes and dreams. When you find yourself in a down moment, I recommend one thing i.e. Remind yourself it’s an opportunity. And perhaps a big one. Ups and downs will always be part of our lives. Neither it’s a contest and nor should we make it one. So when that down mood arrives it’s simply OK to go with it.
Don’t hold onto anything because you are scared of the future. If it is not working for you there is a reason for this. Never take anything that you have for granted. Take care of it and love it. Anything can be snatched from you in a minute. When we feel sad or think ‘why don’t I have this or that?’ or ‘why am I alone?’, always think there is someone worse than you and your time will come to be happy. All you need is Patience!
Try to live your life being at peace, being loved the same way you love others, having good health, having a roof over your head, having food to eat, helping others and the rest are just perks. One thing you should know is: nothing lasts forever, be it Good or be it Bad. So why not live in the moment? If you feel sad, look for someone to talk to and let it all out. The good thing is that after the downfall, who knows what wonderful thing is just there waiting for you.
As I said earlier, It’s ok to feel unhappy sometimes. It’s basic human nature. But know one thing that In such times don’t look for something or someone else to make you happy. Just know that you are responsible for your own happiness as it is something that comes from within. Look for that inner peace and strength. “Life is NOT easy” and I agree with that. But also, life is what we make it. So why not make it the best life we can have with what we have? One thing that is crucial to remember during these low periods is that you have felt authentic happiness before and you will feel it again.
As I always say, life is a roller coaster ride. When you remind yourself that ups and downs are a part of life and your current emotional state is just a temporary part of the journey, you won’t resist the tough part of the ride. Instead, you will flow with it, your emotional state will rise and you’ll be on the upswing before you know it. If you’ve ever seen someone who loves roller coasters riding one then you know what enjoying the ride looks like.
Scream, laugh, smile, cry and feel all the emotions; the ups and downs and twists and turns.
But most of all, Put your hands in the air and enjoy the ride!
